Sluggers Tournament Teams

Regular Season 2022 Spring/Summer
2022 Spring/Summer x Regular Season

About Green Bay Sluggers Tournament Teams:

All Green Bay Youth Baseball players are encouraged to try out for The Green Bay Sluggers tournament teams.  Please understand the “Tournament Teams” are designed for players who have a strong desire to learn and play baseball in a more competitive environment.  The tournament program emphasizes developing players on the fundamental skills of baseball and helping these players continue to get better each year.

  • All Sluggers tournament players MUST play in the GBYB League.
  • There are teams available at every level from 7U through 12U.  7U and 8U will be machine pitch.
  • Training may start after the GBYB Fall League has completed.  Most teams do not start training/practicing until January or later (coach’s discretion).
  • The number of tournaments a team may play in, is decided by the coaching staff (approximately 5 – 8 tournaments per year).
  • Tournament season typically starts in May and runs through then end of July.
  • Tournaments are generally within an hour from Green Bay.   Some tournaments may involve more travel.
  • Each tournament will have its own schedule format.  Most tournaments guarantee three games and possibly up to six depending on the format of the tournament.
  • Tournaments may extend the entire weekend, Friday night through Sunday.
  • Commitment to attending practices and tournaments is required (we do understand there are exceptions).  Playing time and positions are earned, not given.
  • Depending on age, player fees range from $350 - $750, which includes uniforms, off-season training, and tournaments (additional travel expenses are possible).
  • There are individual and team fundraising opportunities to help offset player and team fees associated with playing tournament baseball.
  • Within a few weeks after tryouts, players/parents will be contacted by the Sluggers coaching staffs in regards to their status on a team.
  • A $100 non-refundable deposit will be made to Green Bay Sluggers when a player accepts a roster spot on a team. This deposit will go towards player fees or training.
  • Please note, league baseball and tournament baseball are very different. League is a recreational atmosphere focused on improvement and providing opportunities for players to experience different positions. Tournament baseball is a competitive atmosphere where kids are more likely to play positions that best help them grow as baseball players.
  • We require each family to volunteer at our annual Sandlot tournament (each shift is about two hours long).
    • If you do not sign up for shifts or fail to cover your shiftsyour player will be ineligible to play the following season.

All players interested in playing competitive tournament baseball in the Green Bay Youth Baseball League are strongly encouraged to try out for the Green Bay Sluggers tournament teams. As more players try out, it is possible to create multiple teams for each age division, allowing more children to play in competitive baseball tournaments. The tournament program emphasizes developing players on the fundamental skills of baseball and helping these players continue to get better each year.

Guidelines:

  1. All Sluggers Travel Team players MUST play in the GBYB League.
  2. The coaching staff and board members will evaluate/score players.
  3. Each player will be scored on hitting, fielding, catching ability, throwing, base running, and pitching (7U and 8U excluded).
  4. Scoring will be on a scale of 1 to 5.
  5. If we have enough players sign up to play, we will create multiple teams for each age group.
  6. If we do not have enough players to create multiple teams for a specific age group and there are more than 11 players at tryouts for that specific age group, the team will be required to keep a minimum of 11 players but not more than 15 on a team.
  7. The GBYB Board and coaches will meet to determine teams and the number of players per team.  GBYB Executive Board will have final approval of each team.
  8. After final approval (within two weeks of tryouts), coaches will be contacting players to offer them a roster spot.
  9. A $100 nonrefundable deposit will be made to Green Bay Sluggers when a player accepts a roster spot on a team. This deposit will go towards player fees or training.
  10. If too many players declined a roster spot, the GBYB Board of Directors and coaches will meet to determine if there are enough players for multiple teams (Green/Gold, or Split squad).  If there are not enough players, refunds will be given to any player that accepted a roster spot that no longer has a team available to play on.
  11. Sluggers' practices can begin after the GBYB organization's fall baseball season is completed.
  12. It will be up to each Sluggers coaching staff to seek out practice locations, schedule a time, and pay for any associated fees (GBYB will help fund the 7U and/or 8U teams if they are new to Sluggers).
  13. Each Sluggers coaching staff will determine the number of and what tournaments they will enter.

Registration for tryouts is now closed.
